What Would make Our Candles Different

Let's look at the nature of our candles. Our candles are ethically produced in small quantities using eco-friendly components and packaging. Our candles are cruelty-free, vegan, and made without the use of parabens, phthalates or petroleum ingredients. We also use 100% soy wax that comes from sustainable agricultural crops within the USA. But what exactly is soy and why is it so important?

Soy wax originates from soybeans (shocking isn't it?). They accomplish this by taking clean, cracked, dehulled soybeans and rolling them into flakes. The oil is taken out and the hydrogen is then produced. In addition the flakes that remain can be used as animal feed! This process alters the melting point so that it is hard at room temperature, and ideal for candles. If being natural, renewable, biodegradable, and vegan were not enough, soy wax typically has the longest burn time and has no indoor air pollution.

What is the other kind of wax? There are three other waxes commonly used in candles. These include paraffin wax, beeswax, as well as coconut wax. Let's discuss them. Paraffin is, perhaps the most widely used wax for candles, particularly scent-laden candles because it has a great scent throw. What is the reason why increasing numbers of companies switching to other waxes? It's because it's not renewable! Paraffin wax originates from petroleum, coal, or oil, and is carcinogen! We are concerned about the environment and the health of our customers, in our company Brand & Iron, so renewable, sustainable and ethically-sourced ingredients are required.

Beeswax is a popular organically sourced wax that performs exceptionally well for candles generally. But, it has strong, natural aroma which doesn't mix well with other scents. vancouver candle company However, the most important thing is that beeswax is created by bees (obviously), and as a candle manufacturer that is vegan, that's unattainable.

Lastly is the coconut oil. Apart from the high cost, it's also difficult to obtain pure coconut wax. This is primarily because of how soft coconut wax is. Because it has such a low melting point, most coconut waxes are a blend with one or more of the mentioned waxes. This is not a problem, but due to the lack of transparency from manufacturers and the tricky language they use, it's nearly impossible to know what the wax is mixed with, and even the reason why they're mixed in the first instance. We'd like to ensure an organic sustainable, vegan, renewable and sustainable candle, which is why we choose to use soy wax.

It's not just about using soy-based wax to make an eco-friendly and sustainable candle. We make use of a lead- and zinc-free cotton wick, which is non-toxic and simple to work with, and requires less maintenance than a wooden wick. What is it that makes our candles unique? We take our values right down to the packaging. Yes, all of our packaging peanuts can be biodegradable; in fact, all of our packing is recyclable. We also love encouraging clients to use or recycle empty candle vessels. We'll discuss some of our top ways to do that next month, so make sure to sign up for our monthly newsletter in order to stay up to date.
